About the work:

Yaunkwa, in its origin, is a ritual of the indigenous community Enauené-Naue, located in Mato Grosso area of Brazil. This is a year-long ritual linked to their food supply and it’s composed of different events scattered throughout the season, all of which are related to fishing and growing corn.

This work is inspired in this great ritual and it’s structured in a series of smaller rituals, each of which is linked to a vital event in humans’ lifetime
Yaunkwa opens with a call that is the introduction of the great ritual, followed by the first of the smaller rituals, the welcome.
After this we will find a brief song of thanksgiving and celebration interrupted by the second ritual, fight and overcome; after the interruption the thanksgiving song will finish. Finally, the last ritual works as a farewell, and with this the life cycle closes.

Yaunkwa tries to approach the essence of the human being from a modern day musical perspective.
